We Are the Web

Net Neutrality, the idea that internet service providers and governments should treat all data and content on the internet equally, continues to be under siege — just as it was when we created the “We Are The Web” campaign/organization back in 2007.

We enlisted some of the most popular internet celebrities at the time to create a fun, weird and catchy music video, as well as to share what the Web meant to them. Over a million unique site visitors stopped by in less than a month. Google ranked the video third in its “Ten Best Videos” list that year, and Yahoo featured the video on their homepage — a placement worth $2 million in ad dollars. From VH-1’s “Best Week Ever” to Vice Magazine to a nod on “South Park” to being prominently featured in techie sites like Boing Boing, Mashable and Gizmodo to the Best of YouTube, the message found its way into every corner of the internet. It even won a Webby.
